W.E.B. Du Bois, born in Great Barrington, helped to shape the tradition of Black intellectual and artistic life in the United States. One of Du Bois’s aims was to bring together leading scholars, writers and artists, and to create lasting support for their work. The first day of this year’s forum takes place at Jacob’s Pillow where the forum will honor the inaugural Du Bois awardees, including former Governor and First Lady of Massachusetts Deval and Diane Patrick, Secretary of the Smithsonian Lonnie Bunch, and Executive Director of Embrace Boston Imari Paris Jeffries.
In addition to the awards presentation, programming will include a roundtable featuring Secretary Lonnie Bunch, Thavolia Glymph, Elizabeth Hinton, Nathan Connolly, and Brandon Terry; a book reception with Du Bois Forum authors; a dance performance by the Red Clay Dance Company; musical selections by Candice Hoyes; and a Du Bois-inspired menu for the dinner curated by James Beard award-winning chef Bryant Terry. A walking tour of the Du Bois homestead site and a panel at Chesterwood round out the forum days.
